There are a great number of standing fans on the market, and if you’re in the market for a new fan, a standing fan of some sort may be worth putting on your short list. There are two main types of standing fans available:

Pedestal standing fan

This is the traditional style of standing fan that most of you will recognize. A normal round fan with cage (generally between 12 and 24 inches in diameter) is supported by means of a single column which is often telescopic to allow you to alter the height of the fan. Look for a model with an oscillating function allowing the fan to cover a larger area and at least 3 speeds. If possible try to get a demonstration of the model you want so you can check for the amount of noise it produces.

Tower standing fan

Tower fans are more recent introductions into the world of fans. Instead of one large fan on top of a supporting post, they have either multiple small fans stacked on top of each other, or a slot with which to dispense cool air. They are more contemporary looking than pedestal fans and are generally shorter (up to around 40 inches tall) and thinner allowing them to be placed more discretely than equivalent pedestal models. Most good quality fans such as the ‘Lasko 2517 40″ Wind Tower Platinum Space-Saving Fan with Remote’ will come with at least 3 speeds, an oscillation sweep, timer and many also offer remote controls.

Whichever style of fan you decide to go for it can be a valuable addition to your home allowing you to stay cool in the summer and also reducing existing air conditioner costs by helping circulate air properly.
